Chapter 12: Beast

This entire situation had me fucked up in the head. I could only imagine the fucked up place Vince was in. I tried to reach out to him during the week’s time that had gone by, but he hadn’t been answering his phone for anyone. Sashae and I showed up to his house a few days ago, and he wasn’t doing well at all. He had liquor bottles lying around, and the smell of weed was strong as fuck. We cleaned his place up and gave him the funeral arrangements.

Since today was the funeral and Vince was in no condition to drive, I was picking him up. Pulling up to his house, Vince was sitting on the steps, smoking a blunt. All I could do was shake my head. Vince got up from the steps and walked over to my car. Before he got in, he finished his blunt.

“You good, yo?” I asked Vince as he got inside of the car.

“Yeah, I'm just ready to get this shit over with.” He spoke as he held his head back. I didn't say anything else as we drove to the funeral home. I turned up that brand new Jeezy CD and just let my mind wander.

“You ever set that meeting up with the crew?”

“Naw, I didn’t. I wanted to wait till shit died down and twelve fell back. Also, I know you want in on whatever, so when you’re ready, I’ll make that happen,” I told him.

“Make it happen!” I looked over at Vince and saw the fire dancing in that nigga’s eyes. Vince came off as the laid back observer, but that nigga became ruthless when he was tested. I continued to drive to the funeral and decided to text them niggas when we got there. I double parked in the middle of the street, picked my phone up from the cup holder, and sent Mark a code text before stepping out of the car.

Me: Round em up!

Mark: Time?

Me: Now!

After sending the last text, I silenced my phone and made my way inside to say my last goodbyes to Stacy. I approached the casket with Vince, and Stacy looked real peaceful lying there. I patted Vince on the shoulder to ensure him that shit was going to be okay before I went to take my seat next to Sashae.

Once everyone was seated, they started the service. Overall, it was a good one. There were a lot of people breaking down and asking God why, but that was to be expected. Sashae even shed a few tears; the two of them had become friends, so I knew this was going to hit her. When it was over, we all stood to leave and go to the burial.

“I’m not going to the burial. I have some business to handle.” I overheard Vince telling Stacy’s mother when I walked up on the two of them.

“Oh, Vince, please be safe out in the streets. I refuse to lose another child to some nonsense. Tremaine, you stay out of trouble as well.
